ARTIST STATEMENT

In many ways, this project acts as an indirect documentation of a depressive episode I experienced during the summer of 2022. The body of work consists of a variety of snapshot images made during a notably dismal period of life. The consistent darkness in the images paired with the gritty textures from the risograph serve as a visual representation of the melancholic chaos that was present in my mind. To me, the work is a metaphor for the destructive nature of depression, and for the fact that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a photographic diary of the people, places, and things that kept my mind engaged when I needed it most.

The cover text is a quote from “Goodbye, again” by The Lazarus Plot. Very good song/album to listen to while viewing the zine.
